In this animation from NBP-Psychiatric Epidemiology funded by the Danish National Research Foundation learn how to calculate: (a) Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), (b) Years of Life Lost (YLLs), (c) Years Lived with Disability (YLDs) and a recently introduced average person-level measure that takes into account the contribution of relevant comorbidities to disability, the Health Loss Proportion (HeLP). Based on Danish health registers, the NBP team estimated the YLDs and HeLPs associated with mental and substance use disorders. The linked paper (and related material) can be found here.
